  • White lips, pale face: Ed Sheeran reveals his portrait by David Hockney in Instagram post to his 27m followers ahead of British artist's LA exhibition

Ed Sheeran has revealed a portrait of himself painted by the artist David Hockney to his 27 million followers online.

Hockney, considered one of the most influential artists of the 20th century, painted the multi-award winning singer sat casually on a green chair with his legs crossed in his distinctive Pop art style ahead of an exhibition at the Louver in LA.

Sheeran, who topped British charts with three successive albums while picking up a string of Number One singles along the way, captioned the piece simply: 'Me by David Hockney, see it in exhibition at @lalouver'.

The portrait shows Sheeran, known for his recognisable mop of ginger hair and assortment of colourful tattoos, laid back in black jeans and a white t-shirt staring back at the painter, wearing bold square-rimmed glasses and a leather wristwatch.
