While still in high school, Judy studied voice and piano with Beatrice Belkin of the NY Metropolitan Opera. She went on to study music in college, ultimately obtaining a Master of Music in Composition from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1995, which she used to teach keys, theory, composition and songwriting in the Richmond, VA area.
After moving to New England in 2000, Judy co-founded several local bands, including CoolBernie, The Nines and Call Me Al. The challenges involved in adapting a classically trained voice for pop music led her, in 2007, to complete a teacher's certification course in a non-classical vocal technique called The Deva Method.
Judy’s current project is the Singers & Musicians Studio, of which she is the owner, and which is now in its fourth year of business in Keene.
